There is something timeless about the bond between a mother and daughter. It is full of love, laughter, and connection – and when captured in portraits, those moments become keepsakes to treasure for years to come.
Recently, I had the pleasure of welcoming Ines back to my London studio, this time with her teenage daughter Mila, who was celebrating a special birthday. What unfolded was a family photoshoot filled with joy, closeness, and unforgettable images.
Leading up to the Mother and Daughter Photoshoot
This was not the first time Ines had been in front of my camera. She first came to the studio for a boudoir photoshoot, where we had a fantastic time creating images that were both elegant and empowering. I have entered one of her boudoir portraits into London Photography Award competition – and I won a gold award with this photo!
Ines and worked with great synergy in front of and behind the camera. Through our earlier interaction, I also learned how close she was to her daughter Mila, which led up to the idea of a mother and daughter photoshoot. When the opportunity arose, I was delighted to help them create portraits that celebrated both their incredible bond and Mila’s birthday.

Photo Shoots that are More Than Generic Family Photography
My approach to mother and daughter portraits goes beyond simply bringing people together for a family photo. Instead, I focus on the connection and intimacy of the relationship. It is about capturing love, closeness, and authentic emotion in a way that feels timeless.
For women’s portraits in particular, I also like to place a strong emphasis on glamour and elegance. That is why I have curated a studio wardrobe full of beautiful gowns and occasion wear – dresses that feel more extravagant and polished than what most people would wear every day. These outfits not only elevate the portraits but give clients the opportunity to experience something truly special during their photoshoot.

Styling Process of the Family Portrait Photoshoot
We planned two very different looks to give them a wide range of portraits:
Casual Style – Here we pair the mother and daughter with classic white tops and jeans. This relaxed, minimalist look created fresh portraits that showed their natural closeness, full of laughter and warmth.
Glamorous Style – For the second look, we moved into evening and occasion wear. Mila had ordered a dress especially for the shoot, but when it did not arrive on time, the studio wardrobe came to the rescue. She tried on one of the gowns in my collection, and it was a perfect fit. Ines also selected from the wardrobe, narrowing down to two dresses in complementary tones. Since we could not decide which one suited her best, we photographed both – she looked equally stunning in both of the flowy dresses!

Capturing Mother and Daughter Connection
Throughout the session, their connection was unmistakable. From gentle embraces to moments of laughter, every expression spoke of the deep bond between mother and daughter.
Ines, already familiar with my process from her earlier shoot, was confident and relaxed. Mila, celebrating her birthday, warmed up quickly in front of the camera. Before long, she was striking poses with the same ease as her mother, creating portraits that balanced youthful charm with maturity beyond her years.
Together, they created images that ranged from soft and intimate to bold and glamorous. We explored both close-up headshots and full-body portraits, giving them a variety of looks to cherish.

Birthday Celebration at Photo Shoot
The photoshoot wrapped with a birthday celebration gesture. I brought out a slice of chocolate cake at the end of the shoot and lit a candle for Mila to make her birthday wish, which added to the joy and memory of the day. The session was not only about creating photographs – it was about celebrating an experience together.
There were plenty of “wow” moments along the way. Each time I showed them the back of my camera, Ines and Mila were thrilled to see how beautiful the portraits looked. By the end of the session, both were blown away by the variety and quality of the images.
